Germs and children especially, don't go well together. Every now and then their toys should be clean to prevent your child from falling sick. Unlike plastic toys, wooden toys should be taken care of gently. How? Here are some tips you can consider to follow!
Thanks to wood's antimicrobial properties, it's unnecessary to clean wooden toys frequently. But should you need to clean them, they are easy to keep clean without using harsh chemicals. All you need to use is simple, all-natural cleaning products like gentle soaps or vinegar. Dilute with water for a 1:4 ratio. For those stuck-on gunk, consider making a baking soda paste and water and scrubbing off using a damp cloth.
And there's only one rule in caring for wooden toys — don't soak them! A spray bottle of vinegar or soap solution and a cloth will do just the trick! This will get your baby's toys clean without causing them to absorb too much water. Then, just let them air dry and you're done!
We understand that spraying down entire sets of wooden blocks can be time-consuming. If you do not have the time, feel free to fill your basin with a 1:4 solution of soap or vinegar and water then throw the blocks in. Remember, this is merely a dip, not a soak. Swirl them around, then drain, rinse, and dry straight away. Gently scrub those toys that need extra TLC. As long as you don't immerse them for too long, the toys should come out undamaged.
You may see that your child's wooden toys start to look dried out or dull. From time to time, they should be moisturized with a non-toxic, safe oil to bring them back to life. Some options you can use:
- coconut oil
- olive oil
- beeswax
- walnut oil
Just a little amount of oil and gently rubbing it in with a cloth will do it!
