1. Do invest in pieces that grow with your baby

2. Do think of the floor

Your child will spend a lot of time on the floor doing fun activities - tummy time, crawling, walking, playing, or taking a nap! You will need to ensure the ground is safe, comfortable, and clean for your child. Invest in a good baby play mat that is made of non-toxic material, durable, and easy to maintain. 3. Do think of big and little seats

4. Do include visually stimulating pieces

A newborn baby can only see about 8 to 12 inches in front of them and usually in black and white. To help your baby strengthens their eyesight, consider incorporating high-contrast artwork, wallpaper, and other decors for them to look at while having their diapers changed or drifting off to dreamland. 

5. Do be mindful of furniture with sharp edges

As your baby will spend a lot of time in the nursery, you may want to purchase furniture with rounded edges. Otherwise, you can ensure the room is babyproof with no protruding and loose parts laying around.

 

The don'ts of decorating a baby nursery

1. Don't shop for things that are too baby-ish

As mentioned earlier, your baby will outgrow everything, this includes the room's decor. Soon when they become a toddler, they will have their own minds and opinion! Therefore, neutral items are always the safest choice and will stand the test of time.

2. Don't project gender stereotypes

While it is fun to embrace masculinity or feminity, try not to be caught up with just pinks and blues. It will be hard to hand down to other siblings or friends. Stick to neutrals as much as you can! You won't regret it.

3. Don't forget to check the labels

Just like buying skincare and food, it is also wise to check the materials. From baby cots to play mats to rockers, nursery furniture may often contain harmful materials such as BPA, phthalates, heavy metals, and more.

4. Don't fill up the space

Your child needs room for tummy time, crawling, walking, and playing. Be sure to leave ample floor space for them to explore!

5. Don't minimize the importance of storage

It is a surprise just how many burp cloths, swaddles, diapers, blankets, and more a baby needs. And that's why you need to ensure your baby nursery has enough storage space for these baby essentials.
